How we test
Most "free directory" lists are copied from older lists. We read each site's own submit page, pricing and terms, then submit real products to prove the result. So far we've checked 462 sites, 53 passed, and 13 are proven with a live listing.
The four rules
- Free path
- There must be a way to get listed without paying. Paid upgrades alongside it are fine.
- No badge
- The free path can't require a badge or a link back to the directory.
- Live within 10 days
- Measured from submitting to the listing being public, not the time a site advertises.
- Real and not spammy
- The site must be alive, relevant to products or tools, and not a link farm.
What each verdict means
- Pass
- Meets all four rules on the site's own pages. When we have also listed a product there, the page shows that live listing as proof.
- Fail
- Breaks at least one rule. Shown with the reason so you can skip it, but never linked.
- Likely
- Its own pages say free and fast, but we haven't proven it with a submission yet. Not linked.
- Not checked yet
- Found in other lists and waiting for a test. Not linked.
Things we learned the hard way
- Some sites only reveal a badge requirement on the very last click, so we always test to the final confirmation.
- Some "free review" queues only show their real wait after you submit, such as one 4-month queue.
- Auto-fill from your URL often invents details, so always check what a site fills in for you.
- Results change. Sites start charging, slow down or die, so every site gets re-tested.
