See the live listing ↗Step by step, with the traps we hit
- Account needed.
- Real entry point:
/submit/type. The old/project/newURL shows "Project not found" behind a full-screen Google vignette ad. - Choosing a path:
- Pick "I want to promote / showcase my project".
- Then pick "Start a submission from scratch", not the URL, Product Hunt or GitHub import, to avoid wrong auto-fill.
- Six-step wizard. Each "Next" saves a draft at
/submit/project/{id}/…. - Project information:
- Type (SaaS Business)
- Name (50 characters)
- Logo (optional)
- One-sentence pitch (80 characters max)
- Homepage
- Description (rich text)
- Up to 5 markets (searchable tags; we used SEO, Search Marketing, Developer Tools, Web Development)
- Optional social handles
- Media:
- "ADD" opens an "Add an image" dialog: a URL field, or an upload of 1 MB max.
- The dialog's "Submit" only attaches the image to the draft.
- Built with (at least one field required): Languages, Frameworks, Libraries, Databases, Hosting, Third-party APIs. All are free-text tag pickers.
- Metrics: all optional (visitors, pageviews, downloads, hours/week). We left them blank rather than guess.
- Potential sale: "Yes, I'm open to discussing a sale" is ticked by default. Untick it for a pure showcase.
- Confirm:
- A required "I declare this information is truthful and I comply with all terms" checkbox. Accepting terms is your click.
- An optional "Also feature this on ComingUp for free" toggle, a free extra listing.
- Traps:
- Tag pickers search on the server and lag. Typing then pressing Enter quickly selects whatever is highlighted, which created junk tags like "Typescripte" and "Tailwind CS".
- Typing into a picker that has lost focus adds the tag to the previous field.
- Fix: type, wait about 2 seconds, then click the exact option.
- Logo upload: the page has one shared hidden file input, used by both the logo slot and the media dialog, so a logo upload can land in the wrong place. The logo is optional, so we skipped it.
